## Reviews ### [[2025-01-06]] ![[Nosferatu.jpg]] I've really enjoyed [[Robert Eggers]] other work (though the [[The Northman (2022)]] wasn't a favourite). His films have a tremendous look and feel, and he doesn't treat the audience like an idiot. [[Lily-Rose Depp]] is great in this. I often find performances of women possessed by a spirit a bit tiring (even [[Eva Green]]'s great work in [[Penny Dreadful (TV show)]] was tiresome at times). But Lily-Rose does it exceptionally well. Count Orlok, played by [[Bill Skarsgård]], holds the film together beautifully and terrifyingly. His voice in particular is tremendous. A little tough to make out at times, but it's deep, slow and very much sounds otherworldly. The rest of the case do their job well. Talking of great voices, I was pleased to see [[Ralph Ineson]] as a doctor. And [[Willem Dafoe]] is always a welcome treat on the screen. The only outlier is [[Aaron Taylor-Johnson]], an actor I really like. He gave a very camp, almost humorous show. And I can't work out if it was great or crap. I *think* I liked it. The film itself is very good. This isn't a film you're going to want to watch in a bright room, as its visuals are deeply dark. And like most Eggers films the film is a good mix of carefully and artfully staged beauty, with naturalistic imagery to make the world feel real. The plot itself is as you'd expect, but it's done very well. The pace is just right. Slowing down when needed, but never lingering. If you like dark, gothic films about the supernatural or vampires, then you're in for a treat. I'm looking forward to watching it again. **80%**
