## [[2024-05-09]] This past Monday it was a bank holiday in the UK. And man was it rainy. And what’s perfect on a rainy bank holiday? Staying indoors and powering through a darkly atmospheric TV show. This time it was [Shardlake](https://www.justwatch.com/uk/tv-series/shardlake), based on the Shardlake series of books by C. J. Sansom, on Disney+ – the first I’ve watched on the platform I think. It’s a monastery murder mystery set during the time of Henry 8. And it’s a tight 4 episodes. It was shot in a real castle outside of Vienna and the show is beautiful, without a hint of CGI (or noticeable or bad CGI, anyway). It really adds an authentic feel that helps you buy into the world. The lighting of the interior shots alone is worth the price of admission (WHO WAS IT). I admit that I liked this show more than the average person will. It has everything I like: murder, old timey setting and a castle. However, I still think it’s worth your time. The middle two episodes are the best in my opinion, but give the first episode 30 minutes of your time and see if it speaks to you. Note: Sean Bean has about 5 minutes of screen time in this. Don’t watch this just on his account. You’ll be disappointed.
