[2024-11-24 07:42:13] I’ve started using [[Notion]] at work (not ‘officially’, as we use Jira for tickets, Confluence for documentation, and Google Drive for files. But I’ve been enjoying it. I’ve been using RoamResearch for quite a few years. But I don’t know why, but I gave [[Notion]] ago one day. I think after in a one-to-one with someone they mentioned that another business analyst was using Notion. So that was the impetus to check it out again. In the past I’d always avoided Notion as it’s slow, and requires lots of work and fiddling to get it right. And all that’s true. But it’s also very powerful. Of course deep down I know I’m mostly trying out Notion because Roam no longer excites me. There was nothing wrong with it. Actually, I remember why first tried out Notion. It was because whilst RoamResearch has back links, at the bottom of the page they are not organised by date – and there’s no way to organise them by it. So for example one of the reasons I use [[Roam]] and it’s back links so that I can mention a ticket number in various meetings and then go to the tickets Roam page to see all the updates. But those updates aren’t very useful if they’re in a random order. So I wondered if Notion would show back links by date. And to be honest, I can’t even remember if they do. I’m way past that. I’m all about ‘relations’ and ‘rollups’ now. Anyway, the reason I’m talking about this is because I’ve had more and more of an itch to use Notion for personal stuff too. But I’m trying to resist that because I know it will be a mistake. Whilst Obsidian no longer excites me, just like Roam doesn’t excite me, Obsidian is great. Simply because there’s no lock in and it’s just so powerful. So I must, must resist.
